What is Beta-Caryophyllene?
An abundant terpene produced in nature, Beta Caryophyllene is commonly found in black pepper, oregano and basil alongside other herbs and spices. This terpene is responsible for the aromas in pepper and other spicy herbs.
Beta C has a significant relationship with the human body’s endocannabinoid system as it binds well to cannabinoid receptors. Beta C’s symbiotic relationship with the human body gives it a plethora of health benefits.
In a nutshell the endocannabinoid system is made up of receptors that are positioned throughout the body. The two most prevalent receptors are classified as CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are located in the brain while CB2 act in our peripheral organs.
Because of Beta C’s molecular structure it binds particularly well with CB2 receptors making it beneficial to our physical health. As a matter of fact, it is the only terpene that can directly activate a receptor. No wonder this is such a relaxing craft gin!
What is Beta Caryophyllene used for?
In addition to creating a wildly complex taste profile and spicy aroma, Beta-Caryophyllene has a great relationship with the human body as it binds to the endocannabinoid system better than most other terpenes. Results from experimental research indicate that Beta-C is beneficial to the central nervous system as it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and it can even help with anxiety and depression.
